Per the American Pregnancy Association a birth doula is " a non-medical professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth." The world "doula" derives from greek origin meaning "woman-servant" -- in today's world it has come to mean "one who mothers the mother." 

Nope! A doula is a non-medical professional. This means we are not healthcare providers such as an OB or Midwife. We do not perform medical procedures or diagnose conditions. Please continue to have adequate care from a medical provider such as an OB or Midwife. 

In most ways no. However, a birth coach is typically in a virtual setting. We coach you on labor and birth without actually attending your birth. 

* A Birth Coach is an excellent choice for someone who wants the support and knowledge but not necessarily wanting a labor companion!

Absolutely not! Having a doula does not render your partner "unnecessary." We are there to help your partner just like we are there to support you. We help them with comfort measures for you. We also make sure they are taking care of themselves during the labor process because often times dads/partners tend to overlook their needs to focus on the laboring mama. 

Think of it as an investment! It is an investment into your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. It is also an investment into the beginning of your family. Yes, doulas provide a service and that does come with a price tag. You invest in your home, your health, and in your career -- why not invest in your journey to becoming parents!?

For commercial insurances -- please call the number on the back of your card to inquire for doula support. At this time I do accept Humana Medicaid. Some insurances are starting to accept doula care as essential maternal healthcare. However, this is still a work in progress!  

I offer tailored payment plans! Financial reasons should NEVER be a reason to NOT have support during your birth. Send me a message and we will work things out!

At this time, I do not offer refunds. In the event that I am unable to satisfy our agreed upon contract terms, I will offer subsequent services in the form of postpartum hours OR photography.
